Travel Bag

I will be traveling soon and decided on this J. McLaughlin vinyl tote as my tote of choice. I purchased it in red and will be able to use it as my flight bag, tote, beachbag, etc. I love when something fills a lot of needs.

I am happy to report that I am feeling like a human being again. I had a very rough end of the week and weekend but am on the mend. I was wondering if I was ever going to get better (unusual for someone who is positive like myself).

Mother checked out the Jason Wu Collection at Target and purchased an adorable dress. She looks great in it and it is simply stunning. I am anxious to head over to MAC tomorrow. Their Vera collection is coming out and I love Vera Prints (they remind me of my childhood when I used to look at them at Lord and Taylor). I am anxious to look at the pretty pinks in the collection.

Sick

This is how I have spent the past five days! Since Thursday I have had asthma issues, flu issues and am allergic to the synthroid. Five days and many anti nausea pills later I am finally better!! I am still home today but will be back at work tomorrow.

As I get older I get scared when I get sick. Is anyone else like this? Happy Monday!!

Stressed

When I start drinking Mountain Dew I know that I am stressed. Don't fret I drink the diet version which is no better than the real stuff sans the sugar. It's all starting to pile up--vacation prep, work prep for vacation, Mom stuff etc. HELP. It has not been an easy week but I will be back to regular preppy posting in the next day or so. Hope you are having a carefree week!!

Lessons Learned

I am not a sports fan. I know a lot about various sports due to growing up in a sports oriented home and working with big sports fans. However, I find myself very upset from the death of Joe Paterno. He was the Coach of the Nittany Lions since I was eight years old. I found myself tearing up watching the funeral (ie Memorial for Joe). I have known about Coach Paterno for my entire life and all of the good things that he has done. What a great man and what a great tribute to that great man. I know that many of you will question my feelings but I am truly sorry for his loss and he will be missed.

We will all continue to pray for the victims of the mess that Jerry Sandusky is responsible for. However, I feel that the Board of Trustees must go and that they should posthumously revoke Joe Paterno's firing. How do you feel?

I spent the morning at JC Penney and purchased all of the above items!! I also got a few other shirts and another coverup as well!! I spend $180.00 and got so many wonderful things. I was on the hunt for some additional clothes for my upcoming vacation and decided to try Penney's. It was a successful trip and I shall head back there in the near future. I realize that Facebook is not a preppy blog topic. However, I wanted to talk about Facebook a bit this morning. I am on Facebook -both personally and blogwise. I use it to keep up with friends from many parts of my life who I have a hard time getting together with for one reason or another.

I have several friends who have been "hurt" by things posted on facebook--i.e. reading that a friend is hosting a party that they are not invited too, etc. I was wondering how you use Facebook and have you ever been hurt by it? Please share.

I adore the signet ring. I have one that was given to me many years ago and would love to buy my niece one. She is not particularly preppy but I am hoping that she will "grow" into it. I like this simple style shown above although I would use her complete monogram not just a first initial. Are you a signet ring fan? Where did you get yours? I could use some ideas.

The weekend was freezing here in the Philadelphia area. I got a chance to use all of my winter goodies. I am enjoying having a mild winter and am not sad that we have not had snow. I must be getting old because I do not miss it.

As we all know decorating is always a work in progress. We have some areas in our homes that we want to look just so but do not want to spend a small fortune on. My laundry room is one of those areas. I like it to look neat, clean and fun so I decided to order a rug from Ballard Designs for the room. Stress

I am stressed! Mother has sciatica and her depression has surfaced. I feel so badly for her and I am doing everything in my power to help her heal. When I get stressed I turn to chocolate. Weekend Recap

The weekend went fast!! Don't they all? Mother and I had an action packed weekend filled with friends, food, excitement, etc.

Friday evening we had a nice evening at home. Saturday we observed our Christmas Eve tradition and had lunch at Curds and Whey in Jenkintown. We did some last minute errands and then went home to get dressed.

Christmas Eve was spent at a neighbors which was spectacular. Everything was perfect. At about 2am Christmas morning we heard a lot of sirens. I had no idea what was going on. A neighbor called me and told me that someone was shot and killed about a mile away. It was a pre meditated murder- a domestic dispute enhanced by alcohol. So very sad.

Christmas Day was spent at home by the fire with Mother . We enjoyed our day and got some time to regroup.

This morning I headed to J McLaughlin's sale. I purchased the sweater pictured above. I love it.

The Countdown Is On

The countdown is on. The gifts are purchased, the presents are wrapped. Now it is time for the last minute cooking, baking and shopping. I started my day by going to the gourmet store and picking up the goodies for a friend's Christmas Breakfast. I included blintzes, Fish Market Sour Cream Apple Cobbler, rugelach, smoked salmon, three kinds of cream cheese, champagne, etc. They are dear friends and I am sure that they will enjoy this special treat.

Our work holiday party is today. It is always a nice gathering and it is fun to spend some out of office time with co-workers and friends.

Mother and I are fortunate to have lots of plans for the holiday. We will be heading to a friends home for Christmas Eve, spending a quiet Christmas Day at home and then having a special day on the 26th with friends.

I hope that the holidays are filled with peace, love, family and festivities. What will you be doing?

Hanukkah starts tomorrow evening. I realized this afternoon that I needed a few more gifts for a dinner I am attending tomorrow evening. Actually I offered to bring the favors. I decided on some gold chocolate coins from Trader Joes and some bath bombs from www.lush.com. Lush makes all of their cosmetics and they are a treat. If there is one way that I can describe the past four weeks only the word "terrible" comes to mind. I have been sick since the 21st of October. Last week I finally felt better and then I got sick again. I have a bad respiratory condition and have had no relief for weeks. I am happy to say that I am feeling better today but I am disgusted.

I have missed parties, luncheons, blogger events, the Lilly Sale only to mention a few. On top of that I had to take my Mother to the ER last weekend for her sciatica. The Dr could not figure out who the patient was (as I seemed sicker than Mother was in pain).

I am sorry to be so morose .

I promise a cheerier post in the near future.

Penn State

I would be remiss as a Pennsylvanian not to say something about Penn State in this blog. I was very saddened this week to learn of the news that came out of Penn State. I am sad that my state does not require that anyone who witnesses the abuse of a child is not required to call the police. Perhaps if the laws were different the outcome of last weeks decision to fire Joe Paterno would be different.

I have great respect for Joe Paterno. I grieve for the victims.

An Apple A Day

I have had a nasty cold/sinus infection/virus for the past two plus weeks. I have taken antiobiotics, cold pills, etc. I am finally on the mend but still have that "grippy draggy" feeling when I wake up in the morning. Yesterday after taking all of these medications I decided that my "cure" may be found at the Apple Store. I have the older I Pad and Mother has taken that over. So I decided to "treat" myself to an I Pad 2. I must say that I think that it is helping me in the recovery process.

I am a big Apple fan. I own many of their products and feel like a little kid in a toy store when I walk in the door. Their creativity blows me away. Are you an Apple fan?? Are you thinking about making the switch??

Great Hair Product

I must share a great find with all of you!! I have long straight thick hair. As I age I find that my hair has gone limp and has lost its body and luster. A friend recommended Wen and I have not looked back. It is a conditioner shampoo and I adore it. It comes in a variety of scents and sizes. It is a unique method of shampooing hair but I have found that it has brought my hair back to its original condition. I buy it a QVC and have found that they offer the best selection and prices. Have you ever tried it?? What is your favorite shampoo??

I am an avid user of Bare Minerals. So when I received an email announcing that Mineral Veil was coming out in a pressed form I immediately went over to the boutique and purchased it. Bare Minerals is wonderful for me as I suffer from acute allergies. Having the Mineral Veil in a "solid" form is a joy and makes it so much easier to tote around. I purchased a few extra for Christmas gifts. At $22.00 it is reasonable and a great gift for the mineral makeup maven.

Snowy Halloween

Just when you think that you have seen everything something surprises you!! Mother and I had the privilege of attending two bat mitzvahs in New Jersey yesterday. We were looking forward to attending both events and looking forward to the fall weather. We were not prepared for what we saw when we woke up SNOW!! Yes snow. I have never seen snow in October in Philadelphia and I hope that I never see it again!! What a day!!!

It took hours to get to one affair and hours to get home. What a day. We enjoyed being with family and friends but the weather really threw us for a loop.

I have been under the weather lately so I treated myself to a whole day in bed today. I am really relaxing. Hopefully I will feel better by tomorrow as I have wrapped lots of fun treat bags for my trick or treaters. I bought gummy bears, chocolate covered oreos and some fun orange candy for my guests. I am having my neighbors over for coffee, cider , donuts and candy tomorrow evening. Even though I am getting older I can feel like a kid again. How are you spending Halloween?

Louis Vuitton Delight

I was tickled to death yesterday when I saw this and had to share it with all of you. It seems that Louis Vuitton has partnered with a famous Paris taxidermist and have created an exhibit of animals made with handbags. The collection is on display in Paris right now and will be on tour. Hopefully, it will come to New York soon. I love Louis Vuitton fabric and would love to own one of these fabulous creations. I think that I will have to settle on looking!!

Don't Judge Me

Let me preface this post by saying that in 50 years of living in her house Mother has only has three mice (that we know of). We have someone clean each and every week and never bring food upstairs!! So imagine my shock as I was dressing for synagogue last Saturday and discovered that a mouse at my black Ugg Boots!! It shredded them to pieces. Now it is interesting to note that nothing else was disturbed just the Uggs!! Do you think it was a mouse?? Could it have been a very hungry moth?? Don't despair the exterminator is coming today!!!

Vera Bradley

I am the first to admit that I have not always been a big Vera Bradley fan. However, something happened yesterday that made me a fan. Vera Bradley opened a store in King of Prussia Mall last week. Mother wanted me to run in to pick up a gift and I was floored. The store was magnificent and the help was so wonderful and attentive. The decor of the store was stunning-it reminded me of our sunroom. Did you have have a retail experience that changed your mind about a brand? Please share.

Choice

Choice is a word that I have been thinking about a lot lately!! It enters our world on a daily basis. The food choices that we make, the people that we choose to be associated with, the choices that we make with money and I could go on and on.

Today the word choice comes in with regard to families. When I was growing up we spent a lot of time with Grandparents, etc. I may have not always enjoyed the fact that my Grandmothers came over evey Friday and every Sunday for dinner. I was a typical kid who wanted to spend the time with friends and other nonsense. My Mother however, made the choice to spend the time with family. Now that I look back on it I am so glad that she did. The valuable lessons that I learned while spending time with family are irreplacable. Today's families barely eat a meal together. My niece and nephew bareley acknowledge my Mother and I (they love us but their activities come first). For those of you who think that I am criticizing this I am not. I just wonder what future generations will do and will they regret not spending time with family in lieu of actvities and friends. How do we achieve that happy medium?

Fall is Here

Fall is here!! It's colder out-the heat is on- and the leaves are beginning to turn!! When I think of Fall I think of Apple Cider, Gingersnap cookies and Halloween!! I purchased these reflective Halloween sacks for a few children that I know. I bought them at William Sonoma. I just love that store!! I want everything that I see!!

This week will be a busy one. I thank G-D everyday for my blessings in these tumultuous times. I look around me and feel how lucky I am. I hope that the economy gets better soon. So many people are having such a hard time now.

Indulgence

Indulgence comes in all shapes and sizes! It can be in the form of a lipstick, nail polish, spa treatment and in my case jewelry. I adore antique jewelry and I collect gypsy rings. I have about six and just added the above to my collection. I always go to an antique jeweler in downtown Philadelphia (estate jewelry is always a better buy ). I have been looking to add to my collection and these two seemed to fill the bill. What is your favorite indulgence??

I hope that everyone had a great week. I finished celebrating the Jewish New Year. Mother and I had a lovely holiday. It was filled with food, family, friends and reflection.

I am always searching for the perfect hair accessories. After spending counting number of hours, countless $$$$ and countless searching I have finally found it!! Laduree and Linked In

Yesterday Mother and I hit the Big Apple. Mother had a hair appointment at Vidal Sassoon and I headed for the Upper East Side. On a side note my old boss from Macy's contact me through Linked In and said that it would be fun to get together. I emailed her back and said that I would be in the city the next day and asked her to have coffee with me. She immediately suggested meeting at Laduree and walking along Madison Avenue.

Laduree just opened a small bakery on Madison Avenue. We met at 10:15 AM and the line was down the block. They sell macaroons, candles and candy at this location. Their tearoom will be opening in Soho in a few months. The macaroons are flown in daily from Paris and they are yummy. I broke my diet and indulged in a few yesterday and a few more today. They are well worth the calories. Make sure to visit when in NYC. You will not be disappointed.

My visit with my old boss was interesting. When I worked for her at Macy's I was 24 and she was 36. Now we are 54 and 65 respectively. She is remarried and retired. We talked about the past and what we learned from our various life experience. It was fun and very therapeutic. Sometimes it is fun to revisit the past.

The Hunt for Missoni

If you are a regular blog reader you know that I love the hunt --the hunt for items that is. The harder the items are to find the more I like the hunt until yesterday!! Mother and I planned our strategy-she would go to the local Target and I would go to the two Target stores on the way to work to pick up the items that I wanted (rainboots, barrettes, bobbypins and plates.

Mother arrived at the local Target a bit after 9AM. She called me on my cell phone and informed me that she scored the boots and barrettes but no bobbypins were available. She informed me that the home goods were completely sold out (alas no plates).

I was able to pick up a set of mugs and a set of plates at the Target on the way to work. This Target was completely sold out of all clothing and accessories.

I have a problem with the way that Target handled this whole launch. I feel that they should have been fully stocked and should have limited the quantities that individuals were able to purchase. It is unacceptable for people to walk out with basket loads of merchandise and then put the things on Ebay.

What is your opinion??

We Must Never Forget

It seems like yesterday when I was at work and found out about the attacks on September 11th. The magnitude of the attacks did not hit me until later in the day when I finally got home and was able to watch television. I watched television all night. We must never forget that day and never forget those who suffered for the benefit of this country. God Bless the United States of America.

This past week was hectic. Mother has been in her house for 50 years and I don't think that we have ever seen so much rain here. It was unreal. The devastation in the Delaware Valley is depressing. It took over 2 hours to drive to work both yesterday and today. I feel so very sorry for the citizens of Harrisburg. The Susquehanna River has not been this high since Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Please pray for the flood victims. They need it!!

Labor Day et Al

I cannot believe that the summer is over. It seems that the weather got nice just recently and that the smell of summer just came. I had a nice but hectic summer. It seems that summer gets more and more hectic (as I am trying to pack more and more into each one).

However, with the end of summer comes other things to look forward too-New York City in a few weeks, Fashion's Night Out at King of Prussia this week and getting together with friends and family for the upcoming Jewish Holidays.

I am fortunate that I do not get depressed from the change of season. I know so many people who do. As I get older I realize that I find it harder and harder to go from season to season. Mother is fine but I cannot help but wonder if this will be her last________ so I try to make every occasion even more special than the last.

Mother is very picky about her totes ( I am picky but a little bit too self indulgent). So when she saw this tres fabulous Longchamp equestrian tote she simply had to have it! I adore their Pliage bags. They are so versatile and last forever.

This week has been a mess!! I have had some computer problems (which are solved now) so I have been unable to post!!

I decided that every Sunday I will do a Lust and Must feature. Lust and Must describes a luxury item and a not so luxury brand that I love as well.

This week I decided to featured one of my treasured cosmetic lusts-the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick . It is great for travel and can substitute as a blush, eyeshadow and contour. My must item is a Jordana Lip Pencil. At $.99 for the lip pencil and a $1.99 for the automatic pencil how can you go wrong?

Advice Needed

I hate to start the weekend on a serious note but I do need your advice. I have spent a lot of time thinking about someone who I was friendly with in College. We were close friends for a long time. One Thanksgiving break I took her to the airport and when we returned to campus on Sunday evening I called her and she did not take my call. I discovered that she was no longer speaking to me.

I know that you are all wondering why I am thinking about this. It is just something that I cannot get out of my head. It is a situation that I am afraid that I will never know the answer to. I would love to email her but wonder if that would be ok? What do you think? Have you ever been faced with a situation like this? Please share.

Beads Galore

I have notice that many people are wearing beaded bracelets this summer. I have always loved beaded bracelets and have several from the Paloma Picasso collection from Tiffany. David Yurman makes a wonderful line of beaded bracelets found at www.davidyurman.com. These bracelets make wonderful gifts and are a constant reminder of the person who gave it. What a great back to school gift for your daughter or grandaughter?

Speaking of back to school I can't help but notice what wonderful prices Target and Walmart have on school supplies. The prices are great so why not stock up and give some to the wonderful charities that are collecting school supplies for the needy??

I am Back

I am back!! I have missed you all!! It has been a hectic but wonderful summer so far!! Philadelphia is in its sixth heat wave of the season and needless to say it has been a hot summer!! I have managed to keep very busy with the usual summer activities: dining outside, beaching and working!!!

I have a wonderful job but the people I work with and for take a lot of time off during the summer months so things are hectic!!! My weight loss has progressed to 25 pounds (pictures to follow) and I have managed to get a lot of projects done around the house. I will be blogging on a regular basis and have lots of great things to post in the near future.

I am Back

I am so very sorry that I have not posted for over a week. Life has been hectic, busy and stressful.

The Lilly Sale was fabulous!! I purchased lots of Murfee Scarves for gifts and a few for myself as well. I also got some skirts and have lost enough weight to look ok in a new shift!!! I must say that the sale was much more pleasant because I lost weight!!!

Mother and I went to New York for my birthday. We had a wonderful time and even had time to take in the Alexander McQueen Exhibit at the Met. The exhibit was fabulous and well worth the wait!! We shopped til we dropped and even got the chance to have my very favorite frozen yogurt at Bergdorf Goodman.

My birthday hit me hard. I cannot believe that I am 53 years old. I am feeling the responsibility that comes along with age. I am sure that I will get over it but for now I am feeling stressed. I am also remembering my Father today. He has been dead for 25 years but it seems like yesterday that we were all together. Until tomorrow.

I will be 53 tomorrow!! It seems like yesterday that I was celebrating my Sweet 16!! Where does the time go?? I get sad when I think about the years that have passed. A friend and co-worker reminds me that I am on the back nine!! I am grateful to have a good life, blessed to have my Mother and family, a good job, and great friends.

I am headed to the Big Apple to celebrate!! I cannot wait to hit the pavement. I love New York!!

It's Lilly Sale Week

The time is near!! The Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale starts this Thursday!!!! It's time to make the list, check it twice, come up with a strategy and get plenty of rest before the hunt begins!!!! Are you planning on coming to the sale. I hope that those of you who live in the tri state area come. It is an event that is not to be missed. My wish list includes, capri pants and some scarves. I plan to get there on Thursday morning (not at the crack of dawn) and will report on my findings later in the week. Good luck to all of you at the sale.

Busy Times

I am very sorry that I have been MIA lately. The past few weeks have been very hectic and the upcoming weekend will be even more so. Mother has a very busy social schedule and I am helping her get to all of her weekend events. Tomorrow (Saturday) evening Mother has a fiesta bat mitzvah party to attend at a chic restaurant in West Philly (yes West Philly) and on Sunday she has her 60th (yes 60th) high school reunion. Both of these events are difficult to get to so I am happily playing Chauffeur for the weekend.

Memorial Day Recap

Mother and I had a very nice Memorial Day Weekend. We took a quick jaunts on Saturday and Sunday. Yet we still managed to get a lot done at home!! We stopped at the J Crew and the Brooks Brothers outlets . I got some sweaters, a tank top and shoes. Mother also added some staples to her wardrobe. We went to our favorite restaurant Miels in Stockton New Jersey and I managed to stay on my diet!!

We are finishing off the weekend with the traditional fare of hotdogs and hamburgers. I roasted veggies so that I would not end up eating all of the things that are bad for my diet. All in all it was a very restful holiday weekend. What were you up to this weekend???
