Ban Assault Weapon
I try not to use this blog as a forum for discussion. However, in view of the recent events in Conneticut I urge all of us to stand for a ban on assault weapons. I don't have a problem with people who use and respect guns. However, I do not see a need for individuals to own assault weapons. I know that some of you will agree and some of you will disagree. I urge all of you to write to our congressmen and senators to ban assault weapons. My heart will be forever broken from the events in Conneticut. May the victims rest in peace.

I wrote messages the other day to both my senators and my congressman here in North Carolina to be a part of the change and not a hindrance on this issue. It felt refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI beg you not to sully your blog with knee jerk political comments based on poorly researched media reports, unless this blog is no longer fashion based and is now simply stream of conciousness. I turn to other outlets for such information and commentary.
ReplyDeleteGwen,
DeleteNormally I do not use this blog as a platform for political views. I am a diehard Republican but I am for changing the gun laws.
-please inform yourself it is not the gun its the shooter-I also am a republican -this should not be political-nothing would have changed that crazy killers mind-why take gun rights away from law abiding people-and you need to do some research on these so-called assault weapons.
DeleteIf I believed it would stop this sort of thing from happening, I would agree in a second. However, I do not. A more reasonable approach would be to address the overwhelming and desperate need for caring for the mentally disturbed, so innocent people will not become their victims. We are able to identify these sick people, but we are so busy protecting their "rights", they go untended. To me, this a great disgrace.I vehemently disagree with raising my taxes, but these are the things, as a society, we need to provide and do it well. It sickens me how we waste so much on non essentials but neglect these sorts of things.
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely in favor of a ban on assault weapons. Sending my children into their school building on Monday morning was extremely difficult for me. I imagined the parents of the children murdered on Friday and how different their last morning with their children might have been if they'd had any idea of what was about to happen. The weapon used at Sandy Hook Elementary is capable of discharging 6 bullets a second. Six bullets a second. It can't be used for hunting. Its built to kill humans. Six bullets a second. Those children never had a chance.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely ban assault weapons. The purpose of the second amendment was not intended for a right to use such a high-powered weapon. The line must be drawn somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThese guns never should have been made available for general purchase, they were intended for military use. Maybe we should hold the manufacturers responsible? I don't have a problem with someone having a pistol or a rifle to defend themselves or for hunting, but a weapon that it's only intent is to tear flesh, break bone and inflict horrific damage to a body--it should not be available. Maybe we should allow the public to have personal atomic missles as well???
ReplyDeleteAnd while this may be considered a fashion blog, it is the owners right to say what they want, when they want. It is HER blog, we are simply her guests! And being political is fashionable in this instance. EVERYONE needs to voice their opinion in this matter.
Nice post. I appreciate you taking a stand on this matter, and since you are a diehard Republican, I may not agree with you on much else! I enjoy your blog, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am a gun collector and owner. The problem here is irresponsibility and negligence. Lets put the blame where it belongs, on the mother, who was irresponsible with her son, both in allowing him access to her firearms AND in his 'emasculation'; yes I mean that. As a high school teacher I have seen many of these 'strong' mothers just roll over thier sons and create a very dangerous hatred in them. I have heard so many boys in high school, being raised by these 'strong' mothers, that would love to do some type of violence on them. What's even worse is the mothers think thier sons just 'adore' them. Now I am a single mother and I know that it is very hard to raise sons, I was widowed 15 years ago, but at some point you have to let the boy make his own decisions and speak for himself, all of which has come out in subsequent articles that this mother did not do. She was so wonderful, she spoke for him at the barber, etc., etc. He shot her multiple times in the face, thats hatred.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very sad about this too and don't know a solution. But something must change. This happens too often. And I'm scared for my chidren

thank you. this horrific event happened in my community. guns, when owned and stored properly, fine. (well, not really, but...) but to know this happened with ASSAULT rifles is wrong on so many levels. just terrible and they need to be banned. immediately. Thank you for opening your blog to this tragedy. We lost a lovely little boy, a friend of my nephew, and has several other connections. This is a travesty and while opinions may be varied, these children and those 6 brave adults cannot be replaced and will always be missed. Thank you for acknowledging this issue.
ReplyDeleteTaking guns away from people, historically, is usually the first call of order of newly established Communist, Fascist, or Dictatorship governments. Taking guns out of the hands of citizens establishes a "police state," an imbalance in power.

HISTORY LESSON -
ReplyDeleteBanning weapons is the first call of order anytime a newly appointed Communist, Fascist, or Dictatorship government is set into place. It establishes a "Police State" where citizens are made powerless.
